Kevin Marshall is one of the Times Union lifestyle bloggers for this page. In the short time he’s been with the TU blogiverse, he’s snapped off some great observations about everything from dating in the 21st century to the idiocy of the People of Wal-Mart website. He’s also driven people nuts with an April Fool’s Day joke that posted the Alive at 5 schedule a month early, including everything from Aldo Nova to an Air Supply tribute band.
Recently, Kevin’s been involved in a different project. This week, he appears as Jack Worthing in the Confetti Stage adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest. I had a free Friday night, and decided to take in the show.
First off, the show is held on the fourth floor of the Masonic Temple in downtown Albany. I hope the Masons offer a tour of this building, in that it’s filled with history and antiques and culture throughout the edifice. The fourth floor houses a small theater stage and auditorium, and that’s where the play is held.
The show itself was pretty good, and Kevin did a very admirable job as Jack Worthing. In fact, the entire cast really stepped up to the plate for this performance. Yes, there were a few Opening Night jitters, a couple of slightly flubbed lines, but nothing completely out of the ordinary or out of the question for this type of play.
After the performance, I met with Kevin and some of his friends in the lobby. He was both excited and relieved to have completed the first night of the show, and it was actually great to meet him face to face, as opposed to blog-to-blog or Facebook to Facebook (I understand he also has a Twitter account, but I don’t tweet).
The Importance of Being Earnest runs for at least another week. Good seats are still available. You should go out and see this show. And say hi to Kevin. And let him know you read his blog. Or that you’re going to read his blog, as soon as you’re done reading mine.
